Are You an Ectomorph? Start a Blog!

April 22, 2010

Over the past few months this blog has been a huge help in pushing me towards my muscle building goals, and while I still have a bit of a wait before I reach that one point where I’m completely satisfied, I couldn’t recommended blogging highly enough.
The main benefit, for sure, is that I can share [...]

No One Has All the Answers

April 13, 2010

Coming from a primarily business-based background (specifically business on the Internet) I’ve seen an unfortunate phenomenon in which students treat teachers with a guru-like worship; seeing them as infallible, all-knowing and downright perfect.
This is not as prevalent in most other areas, but remains a dangerous mindset to fall into, no matter what you’re learning about.
I’ve [...]

I Don’t Want to Be a Bodybuilder; I Just Want to Be Less Skinny

March 5, 2010

What I feel is one of the main missions of this blog is to bring the “muscle building” sector back down to Earth. I look at websites like Bodybuilding.com or Muscle Gaining Secrets and while there is good (even great) information to be found, it’s layered and marketed with the belief that skinny guys want [...]

“I Got Crazy Ripped in 4 Weeks” and the Truth About Building Muscle

February 24, 2010

So I was sitting here, listening to Elbow on Grooveshark and a banner ad pops up with a picture of a mesomorphic male model and the headline:
“I Got Crazy Ripped in 4 Weeks”
And once again it got me thinking about fake promises and get big quick schemes, and the fact that people fall for this [...]

Sacrifice Effectiveness

February 22, 2010

I believe that when it comes to training, specifically when you’re an ectomorph, you should sacrifice effectiveness for fun and sustainability. But before I go any further, I am not condoning:

Sloppy technique, resulting in injury and total, 100% ineffectiveness
Laziness and the removal of all stress on your muscles
Taking the easy way out

But if someone was told [...]

How To “Build” Muscle without Doing Anything

January 29, 2010

One of the earliest posts on this blog I recommended 3 must reads for all ectomorphs. One of the blog posts I linked to was From Geek to Freak: How I Gained 34 lbs. of Muscle in 4 Weeks by author Tim Ferriss. But as I mentioned in that previous article of mine…
“…he has been [...]

The Truth About Why Skinny Guys Don’t Eat Enough Food to Gain Weight

January 13, 2010

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been increasingly conscious of what food I’m consuming, but also of the feelings I have when it comes time to eat. For a while I felt the only reason I didn’t eat more wasn’t because I couldn’t eat more. The consumption of larger quantities food was simply a [...]

Your Genes Have Nothing To Do With It…

January 7, 2010

…that’s the response us hardgainers get when we say we’re skinny because of our ectomorph body type.
Sure, it’s easy to use that fact as a cop-out, because obviously skinny guys can put on weight and build muscle by instilling a few simple habits, but the idea that I “choose” to eat less and thus put [...]

Fake Promises and Get Big Quick Schemes: Don’t Be Suckered into Buying “Skinny Guy” Courses

January 1, 2010

There are a billion and one courses out there targeted at us ectomorphic folk. And while there is actually a ton of good information in them (and I’ll proudly promote some in the future once I’ve tested them extensively) some of their sales tactics I feel are less than ethical.
They’re certainly no worse than any [...]
