Set Context, Forget Struggle

How you start your day is how you will continue your day. Live by those words.

If you wake up in the morning, skip breakfast, go straight to your computer and sit there for an hour or so you will not be able to eat enough food or remain consistent with your training. How do I know this? I did exactly that for a good 2-3 years.

The first few actions you take in the morning sets the context for the day. It’s why there’s that saying of waking up on the wrong side of the bed. If people are grumpy in the morning it’s a feeling that’s very hard to shake and that’s reflected in their mood for the rest of the day.

What you need to do is clarify the perfect morning routine. You need to know what it is exactly that you want to do when you wake up that will provide you with this positive context that you’re seeking.

Don’t complicate things. For you, the perfect routine could be as simple as:

  • Waking up at sunrise
  • Having two glasses of water (very good habit to adopt)
  • Boiling and eating two eggs (beneficial to have 24g of protein within the first hour)
  • Enjoying a nice cold shower
  • Reading a few chapters of a book

Anyone can adopt those simple habits, and yet most mornings more closely resemble a frantic rush out the door and perhaps a small snack on the way to work or school. Set a positive context for your strength aims in the morning and maintaining that direction will become effortless.
