Here’s a fantastic philosophy to put in your pipe and smoke it:
Do whatever is better than zero.
This is not an idea of my own concoction. I first learned about it from “internet celebrity” Gary Vaynerchuk, but he spoke about it in the context of business.
For an ectomorph the “better than zero” concept is wonderfully simple: just do something. This applies to training, eating or recovering. Not feeling up for a training session because you’re lacking motivation? Don’t do a full training session, just do one pull up or one squat. Just do something so you’re that one inch closer to your goal.
The real value of this exercise and belief comes from the fact that the first step is often the hardest, but once you ease the pressure and strive for making even a small amount of progress, it becomes a snowball effect. That second rep or second plate of food suddenly isn’t that daunting.
